He didn't correct her. He hadn't exactly underestimated her as he had heard her having trouble with the mud. But it would be rude to say so. Also rude to stare. As soon as she started stripping down to her lighter clothes, he'd turned away respectfully. But now she was asking his name. And yes, he could have lied. But he wouldn't. And it was his own fault that he'd gotten into a situation where he'd have to have a conversation. Well, he couldn't have just let her get soaked for hours, could he have?
"Ah. What to call me. You could call me anything you like, I suppose, but my name is Tra'eve. Is it alright for me to turn back around now or are you still changing, Bennie?" He longed to change into dry clothes as well but he doubted he'd survive for long if he tried.

"You can." she stated with a smile. She honestly appreciated him being so polite as to look away. What a gentleman. "Tra'eve," she repeated, testing it out. "Do you mind if I call you Tra then?" she asked with a smile. She had no way of knowing if this was his real name but it wasn't like she was telling the whole truth either.
Oh how she wished for a fire to warm them... she could attempt magic. She was feeling rather confident right now and that was always good for her magic but at the same time she had a stranger here to worry about. She just rubbed her arms for warmth as the storm raged outside. At least they had shelter so she couldn't really complain.

He turned to face her again, nodding, but looking slightly pained. "Tra is acceptable. Tell me, how did you come to be out here alone in the face of such a storm?"
He began to rummage in the pack again, pulling out two small, cloth wrapped bundles. Very carefully, he began to unwrap them. Inside each packet of cloth was a small, glass jar. The first jar contained several black pellets about the size of his thumb. These were carefully upended onto the floor between them. The second jar contained a pure white sphere that glimmered like snowfall. This stone was placed upon the pellets, and the entire assembly began to glow cheerily, a warm orange glow that put off heat much the same as a fire, only this heat was even and comfortable no matter how close you approached the stones. The jars were set aside and Tra sat back, attempting to find comfort against the rocky wall.

Bennie was about to answer when she was distracted by what he pulled out. She'd seen things like this before.... back home. "Do you do dealings with witches?" she asked, almost in a whisper, not looking away from the warm stone. "I'm not judging," she added quickly. "It's just..." she trailed off. There it was again, her heart felt tight. What if he was a witch? ... No he mustn't be.... could he?
Still she kept her composure as she hesitantly looked back up at him, still wearing sweet, innocent eyes.

Again, he raised a brow. Well, that was a strange question and it caught him completely off guard.
"Ah, um. No, not really. I just have access to a great many magical things where I'm from." He visibly tensed. "I find it is easier to travel when you know you'll be warm." He desperately cast about in his thoughts for something to distract her with. "Well, you mentioned you were traveling to that village. Have you never made the trip before? The storms are quite hazardous this time of year, so you know." His voice was even, now, calm and gentle.

Hm... Bennie nodded in understanding but she was still on her guard. Where did he com from that magical items were so readily available? Still it wasn't a subject to push. She didn't want to draw attention to it any more than he did.
She smiled warmly at his question and shrugged. "I have. The people there are nice enough. I sell herbs and spices," she explained. "I've got to make my wares somehow! I haven't had a place to call home in some time so rain or shone, I need to be on my way! I hope to stay in Rafern for the season anyway. I was really hoping to make it there before the storms started but-" all of a sudden there was a bright flash of lightening, followed soon after by rumbling thunder as if to make her point. "Ah well. Just my luck," she said with a smile and shook her head.
She was thankful for the heat. Boy did it help her poor chilled bones. She found herself moving closer to it and sitting on the ground. Ahhh. Much better.

"Ah, an herbalist, then?" He perked up, seeming genuinely interested. "I know many who practice such things, it is a noble profession indeed. Tell me, are you also a healer or are you a harvester who leaves the healing to others? Or do you cook? Where do you acquire your spices? I've been meaning to try to get ahold of a small bit of pink pepper but my usual sources are out for the season."
He was leaning forward now, clearly interested in what she had to say. And in the soft glow of the not-quite-fire, he looked younger, brighter, warm almost himself. A few strands of his hair had worked themselves partially free of his braid and framed his eager face like a halo. Only the crinkles at the corners of his eyes betrayed him as in his late thirties or early forties.

Bennie blinked in surprise. Well! She hadn't expected that reaction! She smiled back as she sat a little more comfortably.
"Well.. That sure is a lot of questions," she giggled. "Thank you," she added in response to his complement, tucking her feet in a little closer and running fingers through her hair. "I... am interested in healing," she said slowly, "but I'm not sure if I have much talent. I'm a fair cook as well, if I do say so myself. As for where I acquire my herbs, that's a secret," she said with a wink. "An herbalist never reveals her secrets lest someone steals them.... and pink pepper? Hm."
She looked thoughtful before pulling her pack close. To be honest she knew she had some. She almost exclusively collected and sold things that were out of season. How else was she going to compete and make a profit?
"She hummed gently as she looked though her collection of packages, taking her time... before she stopped on what she was looking for, taking out a container with the label of 'Pink Pepper'. "You wouldn't happen to have some money on you?" she asked with an eyebrow raised. She wasn't about to give anything away for free. That was no way to make a living.

Tra smiled even more eagerly, nodding as she spoke and beginning to dig around in various pockets until he pulled a rather tiny pouch free. It couldn't hold much in it, maybe a few coins.
"I do indeed have money. Ah, how much for the whole container? Of course I'll want to see the contents first, of course." He moved forward onto his knees and sort of awkwardly moved closer, as if not wanting to interfere in her personal space but still wishing to conduct a transaction that would have been much easier standing. "Oh, and as for healing, I might be able to teach you a few quick bits of it if you are interested. Since it seems we'll be here for a few hours."

Bennie looked at him a little uncertainly. Who was this man? Teach her healing? He couldn't mean magic surely so what was this? Hmmm... For now she pulled out her container of pink peppers and opened it.
"Grown with the finest care.... you're sure you want the entire package? It wont come cheap, being off season and all."
She took a moment to look him over... he was attractive in his own way, she supposed. If you liked that sort of thing. But what was a person like him doing out here? Alone even? There she was being hypocritical again but she had her reasons.
